Fully cellular containership Epaminondas (2,478 TEU), IMO: 9153862 was fired upon without warning by an Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) gunboat, 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman, in the Strait of Hormuz, at 0355 hrs, UTC, today, according to the UKMTO.

The Master of a container ship reported that the vessel was approached by one IRGC gunboat, which issued no VHF challenge and then fired upon the vessel, causing heavy damage to the bridge, a UKMTO warning said.

UKMTO stated that no fires or environmental impact had been reported, and all crew members were safe. The vessel had its AIS turned off until around 0430 hrs, UTC.

The vessel is operated by Technomar Shipping Incorporated.
