Vessel crew matrix, which are uploaded by operators is one of the vetting criteria of the oil majors. The matrix appears not very exhaustive but the output datas put in there relates to large no of matric criteria which is required to be in compliance.

While I was tanker operation manager, one of our vessel on TC was rejected by another OM when TC oil majors had put the vessel on subs with another oil major. Surprisingly the vessel was rejected for the VCP. Obviously the time Charterers approached us and we all were surprised on the condition on rejection was crew matrix and the criteria which was not being fulfilled as per the mail was ” A minimum of days shall lapse between replacement of 3/E and 4/E was less than 14 days“.

Does it sound awkward as mostly we have been considering this sign off gap between Master & CO and CE & 2E. Obviously this guided me to collate the requirement of crew matrix and I could list 59 criterias under 6 different categories. These were from 22 OM cieteria for VC or TC. Many of the oil majors have different crew matrix requirement for TC and VC.

Much later one of the company came up with solutions but is expensive one. I did not stop only after collating data but then a output was generated from those data which will state which all criteria of which OM is not complied with.
