On 15th Feb 2025 fully cellular containership MSC Baltic III (IMO: 9241475, 25407 gt, built 2003) en route from Montreal, Canada to Corner Brook, Canada, experienced a complete power loss and ran aground off the coast of Newfoundland near Lark Harbour, in a location known as Cedar Cove, early this morning. Emergency crews, including resources from the 103 Squadron in Gander and the Canadian Coast Guard ship Henry Larsen responded promptly to the scene. All crew members were successfully evacuated from the vessel. Reports indicate that several individuals on board sustained injuries, though official confirmation is pending.

According to reports, vessel was carrying containers as cargo on board, lost power and was adrift in stormy weather, with winds exceeding 120 kilometres per hour and waves reaching six meters in height. The vessel dropped its starboard anchor in an attempt to prevent the vessel from running aground, but the effort was unsuccessful, and the vessel ran ashore along the rocky coastline. The cause of the power failure was not disclosed. Authorities are monitoring the vessel for potential pollution being released from the fuel tanks, and an inspection of damage will be conducted when weather conditions improve. There are no reports of containers breaking free or going overboard.
