As a reminder, on July 7, 2025, the Ansar Allah movement attacked the Greek cargo ship Eternity C in the Red Sea, subsequently sinking it. The ship’s crew, including Russian citizen and electrical engineer Alexei Galaktionov, were evacuated to shore. The wounded Russian was taken to a hospital in northern Yemen. 

After completing the required course of treatment, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with diplomatic missions in the region, began working on the practical aspects of organizing A. Galaktionov’s evacuation to his homeland, given the lack of commercial air service to Sana’a and the existing restrictions on the use of Yemeni airspace. As a result, on April 2, 2026, our compatriot departed on a special UN flight to Amman, where he was met by representatives of the Russian Embassy in Jordan.

In this regard, Moscow expressed its sincere gratitude to the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Sultanate of Oman, as well as to the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, for their active and effective engagement in resolving this important humanitarian issue. The Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement also stated that Russia is grateful to the authorities in Sana’a for providing the Russian sailor with timely medical assistance and ensuring his safety.
