As per Indian Coast Guard officials, they started receiving a distress call from bulk carrier JSW Raigad (IMO: 9797319, 5265 gt, built 2017), with 15 crew members onboard, ran aground on the rocks amid stormy weather off Kolaba Fort in Alibag, Raigad district, India on Jul 25. The officials confirmed that all crew members are safe and have alerted the Raigad district administration to assist with the rescue operations. Due to the rocky shores of Kolaba Fort, the Coast Guard’s s vessels are currently unable to reach the site, but officials are actively monitoring the situation.
The vessel is approximately two nautical miles from the shore. The Jindal South-West Group (JSW), which owns the vessel, has also been notified. A JSW spokesperson stated, the vessel drifted due to strong winds and low visibility. Rescue operations are ongoing, and there are no casualties. All crew members are safe onboard and are expected to be evacuated by tonight. The vessel is stable and secure.
