Port Hedland issued a marine notice advising all port users are advised that VHF Marine Pilot working channels are critical to navigational safety and the effective coordination of pilotage and towage operations within the Port of Port Hedland. Congestion or non-essential transmissions on these channels may compromise safe navigation and operational efficiency.

The following VHF channels are designated as Marine Pilot working channels:

VHF: 09, 10, 13, 15, 67, 68, 72 & 74

These channels are used exclusively for:

  • Pilot to vessel communications
  • Tug to vessel communications
  • Pilot to tug coordination
  • Communications as directed by VTS

These channels are not to be used for routine, administrative, testing, or non-essential communications.

Compliance with this notice is mandatory for all vessels and port users operating within port limits.

Pilbara Ports will monitor traffic on designated Maine Pilot channels. Vessels or port users transmitting non-essential communications may be:

  • Directed to cease transmission immediately
  • Reported to the Harbour Master
  • Subject to operational delay or further compliance action
