Marshall Island Registry issued a safety advisory, MARINE SAFETY ADVISORY No. 04-26 advising that in the recent weeks, two Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI)-registered vessels have been detained at European Union (EU) ports due to the following non-compliance with the EU Ship Recycling Regulation (1257/2013):
• expired and inaccurate EU Statement of Compliance.
The RMI Maritime Administrator (the “Administrator”) recommends that all operators of ships trading to EU (and United Kingdom) ports and anchorages check their records to ensure that all Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) documentation on board is in order.
If Initial or Renewal survey is required, operators should notify the relevant Recognized Organization immediately. Alternatively, operators may contact the Administrator directly at IHM@register-iri.com to arrange Initial or Renewal IHM Survey, or for additional information and guidance.
The Administrator does not require IHM certification to be harmonized with other statutory surveys.
