Mariners and port users are advised of the below changes to marine waste offloading services from vessels in the Port of Port Hedland (Port).

Pilbara Ports has arranged for each ship calling at the Port to access a minimum of 1 cubic metre of waste disposal per visit. This will be provided under a revised arrangement with the current provider and will include the following categories of waste, as defined under 2022/01 MARPOL Annex V (Garbage) – Category A (plastic), C (domestic wastes), E (incinerator ashes), F (operational wastes), H (fishing gear), I (E-waste), J (cargo residues (non-Harmful to the Marine Environment) and K (cargo residues (Harmful to the Marine Environment) waste.

Effective from 28 October 2025 the following arrangements will apply:

  • Ships wishing to use this service are to contact the provider on the day before they are seeking to offload (24hrs notice is preferred). Ships are to advise their desired offloading date and time, volumes and types of waste.
  • The provider will confirm a collection time during daylight hours with each ship. This will confirm the volume requested, volume available via the Pilbara Ports arrangement (minimum 1cubic metre) and volume required to be paid separately by the ship/shipping agent (where volume requested exceeds volume available under the Pilbara Ports arrangement).
  • Ships are then to confirm or amend their proposed discharge volumes prior to collection.
  • Ships will be issued a Waste Delivery Receipt for inclusion in their Garbage Record Book
