Bulk carrier Alexis (IMO: 9609158, 45271 gt, built 2012), en route from Yuzhnyi, Ukraine to Port Said, Egypt in a laden condition, ran aground near the Haydarpasa breakwater shallow water area, during Istanbul Strait passage, Turkiye, at 0430 hrs, local time on 7th May. Consequently, Istanbul strait passage was temporarily closed to transit passage since 0600 hours local time.

T.O.F. salvage agreement was signed between the vessel and Coastal Safety. Divers made an underwater inspection to ascertain the grounding area on the bottom point of contact location. The vessel was assisted the tugs and re-floated from the incident place at 1530 hrs. Subsequently, it was towed from the incident place to the nominated anchorage area at Istanbul anchorage. The vessel safely arrived and dropped anchor at 1700 hrs. More detailed underwater inspection will be carried out under the presence of class surveyor and H&M experts to ascertain the bottom section further damages.
