| UANI Calls for Immediate Consequences on Iran’s Regime for its Campaign of Transnational Repression |
| (New York, NY) – United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman Governor Jeb Bush and CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace released the following statement after last week’s U.S. and European joint statement on Iranian threat activity in North America and Europe: “UANI applauds the joint statement from the United States and its European allies condemning the Iranian regime’s continuous acts of transnational repression on Western soil. In the past few months, the regime has been escalating its efforts to target civilians in Europe and North America, not least those from within the Iranian diaspora and Jewish community. Just today, it was revealed that 45 journalists from the UK-based Iran International news outlet have received explicit death threats from Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS). These acts of transnational repression, which are a flagrant violation of Europe and North America’s territorial sovereignty, must be met with severe consequences. “Statements, while necessary, are not sufficient, however. These statements need to be paired with a diplomatic isolation campaign, sanctions, and the credible threat of targeted military force. These cases cannot be handled solely as law enforcement matters where once the authorities thwart the terror plots, the situation is brushed under the rug. This only emboldens the Islamic Republic’s terrorism as it will calculate the benefits outweigh the costs. “Now with Iran’s regime’s deterrence badly eroded after the 12 Day War, Western governments should be on heightened alert for terror plots targeting Jewish communities as well as the Iranian diaspora. Shockingly – despite escalating its campaign of transnational repression – Ayatollah Khamenei maintains a network of infiltration centers across Europe and North America. As UANI’s investigations have consistently revealed, these networks, which operate under a legitimate guise, are proactively seeking to nurture homegrown Islamist radicalization, extreme antisemitism and even recruit foreign nationals for terror-related activity. These networks must be shut down immediately. “It’s long overdue for the United Kingdom and the European Union to join the United States in designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. Likewise, the United States, United Kingdom, and European Union must urgently expand terrorism sanctions against MOIS as it increases its terror-related activity across Western soil.” |
