MSC ELSA 3, started fire on 24th May, developed list of 26 degrees and later sank with big risk to coastal environment. All crew were evacuated safely by Indian Coast Guard.
Wan Hai 503, fire and explosion started on 9th June and the fire still continues, 4 crew is still missing.
While the authorities and coast guard are still busy with these 2 vessels, the third container vessel INTERASIA TENACITY (IMO: 101814), en route from Port Klang, Malaysia, to Nhava Sheva, India, carrying 1,387 containers, along with 21 crew members on board experienced a fire in one of its deck containers, while sailing off the Kerala coast, at 0840 hrs on 13th June 2025. The incident prompted a swift response from the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). All 21 Filipino crew members on board are safe, authorities confirmed. According to Coast Guard District Headquarters four, which comprises the state of Kerala and the Union territory of Mahe, Indian Coast Guard (ICG) promptly diverted the offshore patrol ship Sachet to the location to assist in firefighting operations upon receiving the distress call. In addition, a Coast Guard Dornier (CGDO) aircraft was deployed to conduct aerial surveillance of the situation. However, subsequent updates from the vessel’s master confirmed that the fire was brought under control and no further external assistance was required. Indian Coast Guard continues to monitor the situation closely as the vessel proceeds on its scheduled passage to Nhava Sheva.
The container vessel Interasia Tenacity is also owned by Wang Hai Lines and registered with Singapore Flag like Wah Hai 503. As per the last AIS report of the vessel recd at 0257 Z, 13th May 2025, vessel was making 2 knots of speed was near Alleppey.
