MARITIME SUTRA

Sea of Maritime Insights

Today early am, Oil spill was observed from ship/shore pipe connection while Oil Tanker Phoenix Jamnagar (IMO: 9828962) was discharging crude oil at Sri Racha Terminal of Thai Oil.

Its understood that spill was result of sudden gust of the wind causing leak from the manifold connection.

Thai Oil has deployed oil containment booms, and an aerial survey revealed thin oil slicks scattered over approximately 100 square meters, drifting southward at one knot with northeast winds. The Marine Department has also deployed the vessel Chonthara Anurak with personnel and equipment, including 200 meters of booms, 800 liters of oil dispersant, spray arms, and skimmers, as part of the spill response.

Vessel is chartered by Reliance Industries limited and being operated by MOL Tankship Management, Singapore. Appears that vessel is on long term charter to Reliance Industries since 2019.

Vessel had sailed out from Fujairah on 19th May and arrived Sri Racha on 03rd June 2025.
