Sea of Maritime Insights

On the afternoon of December 10, a merchant ship collided with a fishing vessel off Onsala in Halland. The case has now been closed. The master of the merchant ship was sentenced to 60 daily fines for negligence in maritime traffic, which were paid on the spot.

– Everyone involved was very lucky. The damage to both ships was only superficial, no one on board was injured and no oil was released into the water. The incident shows the importance of everyone at sea keeping a close eye on the shipping lanes, comments Kalle Isaksson, officer on watch at the Coast Guard.

Information from December 10th:

Early on Wednesday afternoon, December 10, 2025, the JRCC maritime and air rescue center alerted about a ship collision in Swedish waters west of Onsala.

A preliminary investigation into negligence in maritime traffic has been initiated. Investigations are underway on board the two vessels involved to determine the course of events and any suspicion of criminal activity.

Sobriety checks have been carried out on board without any complaints.
