The explosion on October 18, aboard an LPG tanker Falcon continues to be under investigation, with the authorities discounting the media speculation of an attack by the Houthis. The Houthis ossued satement denying that they were not in the incident.
Initial reports coming from the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said that vessel was likely struck by an “unknown projectile” which was never confirmed by any oarties. As per United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations the incident occurred 210 km east of Aden
The Iranian National Tanker Company also surprisingly took the unusual step to make a statement saying it did not own or control the ship. This came as speculation continues that Israel might have attacked the ship.
Its is reported that vessel had total of 26 crew and after the explosion 24 crew abandoned the vessel, The 24 crewmembers were rescued by passenger vessel MVMeda. Another vessel AK Carl, had responded to the distress call but later it was heading to the Suez Canal. Later it came to knowledge that 2 crew, Trainee OS & Chief Officer, lost thier life in the explosion. The exlosion is said to have occured in cargo compressor room.
The Houthis, at the end of last week, issued a summary of their efforts during the war, implying the effort had come to an end. They claim to have launched over 1,800 missiles and drones, mostly directed at Israel and targeting a total of 228 ships. Experts have noted it is unclear what the Houthis’ next steps might be, especially because the peace in Gaza appears fragile after Israel claimed violations by Hamas.
