ACS has published Recommendation 192: Guidelines to Address Human Element Issues, a framework designed to integrate human-centred thinking into the development of technical requirements.
Putting people at the centre of our thinking is an important objective of IACS. Rec.192 recognises the core strengths that a person brings to the shipping ecosystem i.e. human decision-making, a sense of purpose and action, as well as the challenges that exist at the human/machine interface. IACS guidelines, therefore seek to provide practical guidance on how to assess workload, decision-making, working environment, and training needs in order to realise the benefits of properly integrating human interaction into increasingly complex ships’ systems.
The objective is to embed human factors into safety from the very start, ensuring more resilient, effective, and sustainable outcomes across the maritime sector.
