St. Lawrence SEaway issued a notice 312025, this document outlines the implementation of longitudinal hydraulic assistance tests at Côte Ste. Catherine Lock to improve the efficiency of downbound ship exits.

  • The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation is conducting tests to assist downbound ships with a minimum breadth of 23.0m and a draft of 6.45m at Côte Ste. Catherine Lock.
  • The procedure involves partially opening the upper end lock valves at the stern of the ship to push it out of the lock more efficiently.
  • Captains and pilots must request the hydraulic assistance from the lock operator before casting off, who will confirm if the procedure is in effect.
  • The cooperation of all involved in this testing is appreciated, with the notice dated September 4, 2025.
