MAIB issued its annual report for 2024. This report details the work of the MAIB during 2024 and includes:

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) examines and investigates all types of marine accidents to or on board UK vessels worldwide, and other vessels in UK territorial waters.

The MAIB recorded 1,631 reports of accidents to UK vessels worldwide or any vessels within UK coastal waters during 2024. A total of 1,753 vessels were involved. 1,510 recorded notifications were within the scope of the Merchant Shipping (Accident Reporting and Investigation) Regulations 2012 and five fell within the scope of the Red Ensign Group MOU. 116 were not in scope of the Regulations or the MOU and are not included in any of the statistics contained in this annual report. This statistical overview represents 950 accidents, involving 1,017 commercial vessels that experienced an actual or potential casualty to a vessel. Accidents to people are not included in this section.
