At the NSCR11 sub-committee meeting of the IMO Maritime Safety Committee, updates were made to SOLAS Regulation V/23. These changes align with Resolution A.1045(27) and ISO 799 standards for pilot ladders. The revised rules were approved at MSC 110 in June 2025 and take effect on 1 January 2028. The UK Maritime Pilots’ Association (UKMPA) is pleased to share a poster summarising the key amendments to SOLAS Chapter V/23 on Pilot Transfer Arrangements, adopted at IMO MSC 110.
Implementation Timeline:
• New installations – 1 Jan 2028
• Existing SOLAS vessels – 1 Jan 2029
• Non-SOLAS vessels – 1 Jan 2030
These amendments now reflect the updated best practice, and the UKMPA is working with industry partners to encourage early adoption.
