Around 8:10 Am on 20 June, SCDF was alerted to a fire onboard an oil tanker anchored in the waters of Singapore’s eastern area.
Three SCDF marine rescue vessels and about 40 marine firefighting specialists from Brani Marine Fire Station and West Coast Marine Fire Station were deployed to the incident.
Upon SCDF’s arrival, black smoke was seen emitting from a storeroom in the oil tanker. Marine firefighters used a water monitor from a marine rescue vessel to cool the exterior of the affected oil tanker. Known as boundary cooling, this helps to cool the metal structure of vessels. Concurrently, another team of firefighters boarded the oil tanker to locate the seat of fire and extinguished it using a water jet.
There were no reported injuries and all crew members of the affected oil tanker were accounted for.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
As per photographs posted by SCDF on social media account smoke can be seen coming out of emergency escape on port side of the vessel.
