MR Tanker STI Magister (IMO: 9833541), reportedly spilled a large amount of fuel during cargo discharging operation at Islands Petroleum terminal, Port of Rabaul, Papua New Guinea on 8th Morning. The quantity is not known but can be said as significant oil spill.
The incident occurred, while discharging to shore tanks between 0900 hrs and 1000 hrs. Fuel washed onto the shoreline between PNG Ports and the Islands Petroleum jetty.
Authorities, including Rabaul Urban Local Level Government, PNG Ports, and NMSA, have been urged to initiate an immediate inspection and investigation.
As per social media post, oil is seen to reach the shore and sheen is evident near the vessel.
