The container Vessel Wan Hai 503 (IMO: 9294862), which experienced fire in position lat 11 32 24N, long 074 37 33E, off the southwest coast of India, on Jun 9, The Indian Coast Guard released a further update stating that fires and explosions continue from midship towards accommodation. Flame and thick smoke can be seen as per the photos and videos released by ICG on X.
Its reported that vessel has developed list of around 10 to 15 degrees to port and more containers have gone overboard.
Indian Coast Guard (ICG) vessels Samudra Prahari and Sachet are engaged in firefighting and boundary cooling operations, while ICG vessel Samarth is being deployed from Kochi along with salvors. The DG Shipping is in continuous coordination with the Coast Guard, Navy, and vessel managers for an organised emergency response. Officials from MPA Singapore, the vessel flag state, has also reached India for co-ordination and investigation.
The vessel, managed by Wan Hai Lines, has been instructed to appoint a professional salvor and firefighting expert, with initial contact made with SMIT Salvage for specialised assistance.
